Blurb: “Your brain it works different, different you see. Different than others, neurotypically.”
Millie suspects she is different than others. On the outside she appears to be fine but what’s really going on in her head is a completely different story.
Unmasking Millie is a much needed story about visibility for girls and women with ADHD. It is a call to action to stop masking (something many girls/women with ADHD do) and embrace your differences.
Review: Unmasking Millie is a lovely picture book that tells a simple story about ADHD in girls. It shows how it can look like conformity on the outside, however there is so much going on inside that it can be hidden.
The story is simple, showing the differences, then realisation and diagnosis, and then being able to unmask and just be who you are.
While unmasking isn’t as simple as getting a diagnosis, this book shows that ADHD is not a ‘bad thing’, it’s simply a neurological difference. Unmasking can be different things to different people and a diagnosis is the start.
At the end, there are some questions and resources to help girls, parents and teachers to help them understand and get diagnosis and support.
A lovely picture book that would be helpful for families going through diagnosis as well as for those around them to understand what they are going through.
I read this from a free download on Amazon.
