    Happy New Year – 2024

Happy New Year everyone and welcome to 2024!

I don’t know about you, but 2023 went by so quickly. It was an interesting year for me.

At the start of the year, I had my first job interview in many years, and got the job! It lasted for five months when the contract ended and wasn’t renewed due to state government budget cuts. While the job was great, it confirmed to me that I really need to be self-employed and able to work in a way that suits my brain. I need a mix of creativity as well as routine, as well as plenty of time for rest.

I also started working with Gretel Jane Coaching to help better understand my brain. This has been a fascinating process and I’m learning so much about me and how I tick, and starting to get more confident to be me, an amazing person that has been hidden for way too long.

With all of this, I have also been accepted into the Self Employment Assistance Program with Centrelink. For those in Australia, this used to be the NEIS program. My goal is to earn enough from my workshops and other programs so that I don’t have to go back on JobSeeker again.

This year is already looking bright. It may have only been a day so far, however I finished reading Late Bloomer by Clem Bastow this afternoon, and there are so many things in that book that are helping me see myself in a new light. Things I knew but hadn’t been able to put in to words.

So, what is on the cards for 2024?

I want to talk more – talk about what it means to be neurospicy, talk about reading and writing for fun, talk about books, generally talk to people. Last year, I spoke at a school wellbeing day, and the fact I was telling the kids that I’m neurospicy and that it’s not a ‘Bad Thing’ was something they needed to hear.

I want to write more – I have so many novels and other stories that need to be finished, and some need to get out there. I also want to write more here about my journey in the hope that it will reach others.

I want to read more – okay, so maybe not in the number of books (I read 97 books last year), more making it a priority in my life. I am realising that it’s more important than simply reading, it’s about emotional regulation, and stress relief, and general wellbeing.

Most of all, I want to be me. I want to continue the work I’m doing to find who I am, clearing away all the layers that have been hiding me, and stepping in to the light. Years of parenting and working and not knowing I’m neurospicy have hidden all my awesomeness, and it’s time to shine.

Instead of a ‘New Year, New Me’ post, this is more of a ‘New Year, Awesome Me’ post.

I hope you’ll join me on this adventure.
