Yesterday, I mentioned I’d been in a program with Brian Tracy, the guy who wrote Eat This Frog, and how that book had added to the feelings I had of being broken and a loser.
One reason is that doing the hard thing first doesn’t help me get things done.
If I push through to do that, then I’m often exhausted afterwards, so nothing else gets done at all!
One thing I’ve learned is that frog can wait.
It can wait until later in the day.
It can wait until closer to the deadline.
It can wait until I’m ready for it.
Another thing that I’ve learned is often that frog can be outsourced to someone else!
These tasks may be big and hard, and I’ve learned to evaluate if they are things that I actually have to do or if I can outsource it to someone else.
For me, I need to start my day with smaller tasks that may not seem as important to other people, however they make a difference to me.
These help with the transition to ‘work mode’ or even ‘home mode’.
These help give a dopamine boost by ticking things off my list and helps keep me moving forward.
Even when I was at school doing homework and assignments, I had to do smaller things before tackling the main assignment. This was something that even I didn’t understand, and would often look like procrastinating.
If you find that eating that frog doesn’t work for you, that’s okay. Find the ways that do work for you. That book was not written for neurodivergent people.
Sometimes, the frog can wait.
