It’s OK to be fussy about your coffee, or in my case, chai.
I am often given a hard time because I like my chai a certain way. Not too sweet, and a certain flavour. I take my own tea bags with me as I don’t assume people have chai of any kind, let alone the stuff I like (often they have chai with vanilla or other things that make it sweet).
I used to feel awkward about it… and would drink tea that I didn’t really enjoy, mostly in an effort to make my host comfortable. Then I started noticing people with their coffee!
The number of people I see who order their coffee just so in a cafe. The number of people who refuse to drink instant coffee when they visit someone. And I even know some who travel with a coffee maker so they get their coffee just right! They have no hesitation in expressing their preferences for coffee and making sure they get what they want. They don’t consider themselves rude with this, they just want their coffee the way they like it!
Many years ago, I commandeered one of the small plastic containers I had bought for the kids lunches, put some of my tea bags in there, and put it in my handbag to take to church and with me when I was visiting people. I started choosing cafes I liked based on how they made their chai, after all, I know others who do the same with coffee. I have even been known to order boiling water and milk so I can make my own chai if they don’t have chai tea or only have vanilla chai powder.
This was probably my first little act of making life the way I wanted it to be. It may be a small thing, but life is made up of those small things. There is a meme I see often that says life is too short for bad coffee, it’s the same with chai!
It may be a small act of self-love or whatever you want to call it, but it’s OK to be fussy about your coffee, chai, or whatever beverage you drink
